It has always been important to plan ahead for the future. A lasting power of attorney will allow someone to act on your behalf in the event that you are unable to manage your affairs, either through accident or illness.
Lasting Powers of Attorney are a new type of power that replace Enduring Powers of Attorney. The key difference is that all lasting powers must be registered before they become effective.
Many of our clients already have Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPAs). The Mental Capacity Act 2005 means that you can no longer make changes to an existing EPA, or make a new one. However, existing EPAs are still valid.
We have gained a lot of experience with LPAs since they were introduced, and kept up with all the developments since. The system is more complex than the one it replaced, so we recommend you contact us as soon as possible to discuss your individual requirements.
